They are a throwback to yesteryear and work especially well in smaller spaces. If you have room for a banquette or table, you can add colorful fabric. Artwork and geometric rugs can launch your inspiration as well. You can even create your own geometric shapes in your backsplash tile or floor like Mario Mulea did for our client in Woodmere, Long Island. The mosaic border in blues and greens highlight the center island creating a “rug” effect against the 16×16 inch porcelain square tile.
